Derby and Nottingham revealed as the least stressful cities for home movers
A recent report from Money Super Market, the UK’s leading price comparison website, has revealed that Derby and Nottingham are one of the least stressful locations to move to.
MoneySuperMarket’s Moving Stress Index scored 30 of the UK’s biggest cities against eight key factors that have an effect on a house move. These were: the number of local delivery companies, child care availability, takeaway services, road access, local ‘happiness levels’, cleaning services, broadband speed and supermarket proximity.
A nationwide poll had previously highlighted these factors as some of the biggest potential causes of stress in the home moving process. As you might expect, more than half of respondents (56%) said the process of getting everything into their new home was their biggest stress trigger, closely followed by slow or no Wi-Fi (51%) and not having a working kitchen (40%).
There are around 650,000 home movers a year. Of those who responded to MoneySuperMarket’s report, nearly nine out of 10 (86%) said they found moving day stressful. While there’s no getting away from the fact that a house move is a stressful experience, there are things that can be done to mitigate stress levels and ensure the moving process goes as smoothly as possible.

Also, MoneySuperMarket has developed the Home Movers Hub. The website is designed for every stage of the moving process and includes everything from a mortgage calculator to a broadband speed test.
Kevin Pratt, consumer affairs expert at MoneySuperMarket, said: “There’s no escaping the fact that moving day is stressful, but a way to minimise the pain is to plan ahead as much as possible."
